Yesterday, my sister, Cheryl and I went to Lakefield for a little outing. Lakefield is a great little village about 20 minutes north of here and it has almost everything you could want. It is definitely one of my favourite places in the world. It might be one of Prince Andrew's as well. He went to school in Lakefield and often returns to this area for official functions and private trips.
We had a delicious lunch at Nuttshell Next Door and we both ordered the same thing - Clubhouse sandwiches ( truly a piece of art - grilled chicken breast, smoked bacon, fresh tomato and lettuce on a French stick) and mesclun salad with matchstick vegetables and homemade dressing. Great way to start the afternoon.
We looked through a craft and gift store, Stuff and then headed to Young's Point (another 10 minutes north) to walk through
Lockside Trading. This store used to be a lock keeper's house and was purchased and turned into a store. They still display bedding on the second floor. I took some pictures for you...

My Mum tells stories about the lock keeper's kids being so lucky during the 30s when she was growing up and going to school. They all had nice houses as part of the job and earned good wages. She also remembers a kindly neighbour picking her up in his sleigh on a particularly cold winter day. She rode home that day in style listening to the sleigh bells on the horses.

After Lockside, we swung by
The Greenhouse on the River so I could buy a few more plants for a little project I'm working on. I'll post that in a few days...

Hi, I'm stopping by via Linda's White Weathered Hutch. I was happy to see your comment and to discover another Ontario blogger. I spent a lot of time growing up visiting cottages in the Peterborough area and have family from the Lindsay area. Loved the tour of the light keepers store and especially the photos of the lovely bedding. I'm going to become a follower now and put your blog in my Canadian blogs list on my sidebar.
