I am always pinning little ideas and tips and recipes on Pinterest but I haven't used any of them until today. My bathroom needed a good spring cleaning and I scrubbed until it sparkled.
Specifically, the grout on the floor really needed cleaned and I saw a pin that said toilet bowl cleaner would clean those grout lines lickety split.
The picture doesn't look as bad as it really was. To the right is an area that has been covered by the mat and to the left, the very dirty exposed grout lines.
I applied toilet bowl cleaner to the grout lines and let it sit for a couple of minutes. Then I scrubbed it lightly and rinsed (wear gloves...I didn't and my hands are irritated).
Holy cow! This is the same dirty area that is sparkling clean now! That is one pin I can recommend.
Of course I also changed the shower curtain. Am I the only one that has a winter shower curtain as well as a summer one? I like adding light, bright white to the bathroom for the summer.
I also put the first peony in bloom in my garden in a sweet china vase. It filled my tiny bathroom with a gorgeous fragrance! I am joining Elaine for her Sunny Simple Monday party.

The blue and white is fresh and clean! Would you mind sharing what colour of blue paint is on your walls and where you found your gorgeous shower curtain? I live in a post-war home (west of Otawa) and my bathroom looks to be about the same size as yours. I've been struggling with colour choices to keep it light and airy!

Hi Kim Thank you very much. I designed this bathroom. I have a tiny post-war bungalow and when I moved in 13 years ago the bathroom was grey. All the fixtures were grey. the floor was grey and the walls had fake white and grey paneling that looked like tile going 3/4 of the way up the wall. Above that, they had navy blue wallpaper. It was an awful dark cave.
ReplyDeleteI had a construction company gut the room, drywall and put in white fixtures. I had a large square of expensive glass tiles cut into individual ones and set into the wall of very cheap white tiles. It was from those tiles that i worked out the colour scheme. The paint is Benjamin Moore forget me not which is actually a little more green than blue.

The shower curtain, along with my winter one ;) was purchased at Home Outfitters. They usually have a good selection if they don't have exactly the same one. I usually buy towels and bath mats at Home Sense. J
Well that certainly was a sound decision on your part to get rid of the dismal greys and navy! I can only imagine.:-) Our post war bungalow was moved here ( near Pakenham), 10 years ago, from one of the bases in Ottawa and we are slowly trying to update it. I actually only recently found your blog and really enjoy reading it! Thanks very much for the information. Now you've motivated me to get started painting. :-)

What a great tip - and timely too. I need to give it a try. Your bathroom looks so fresh and pretty. You might be the only one I've heard of that switches out your shower curtain, but I love the idea - just never thought of it.
ReplyDeleteHey Grace - it's amazingly quick and easy. I've bought special grout cleaners in the past and they didn't work. I ended up buying grout paint for the kitchen - what a long messy job that was. Originally I bought 2 shower curtains cause I couldn't make up my mind in the store but I kept them both. One is light and white and the other is much darker to warm up the bathroom in the winter. That's my excuse for keeping both anyways. J
DeleteMy bathroom tiles were a sight for sore eyes, the grout was stained and looked a bit filthy. Sadly I couldn't afford to replace the grout for the entire bathroom. I found out about Nugrout products and decided to give it a try. I am amazed by how new my bathroom now looks with the new grout color, and how affordable the entire process was. ReplyDeleteWow! That looks really clean! Who knew toilet cleaner can actually be used to clean grout? They’re usually really hard to take out, but you did not even need to scrub it that hard and it resulted to a very clean grout!
